Parent’s Corner
Vacation vs. Camp
Parents who plan to send their children to the California Cadet Academy are invited to visit the surrounding area during the week their child is at camp. The academy is located in the Napa Valley that is known throughout the world for its fine wines. The Napa Valley is home to over 400 wineries and is a short driving distance from Sonoma County where additional world class wineries can be found.
The Napa Valley is about half-way between San Francisco and Sacramento. Both cities offer attractions that may interest parents. Follow the links listed below to explore vacation opportunities in the area.
No accommodations are currently provided by the CCA for parents who are visiting the area while their children are at the Academy. Parents are eligible to receive a 10% discount at some area Hotels, Restaurants and Wineries.
Student Focused
In an attempt to address the needs of boys and girls individually, each camp session is expressly focused on the student's needs. We provide male and female instructors who mentor the cadets based on their life experiences. Each academy session is designed to provide positive role models for boys and girls. The camps are coed and designed for boys and girls to interact in a professional environment.
Safety
The California Cadet Academy is dedicated to providing a safe environment for the cadets to learn and experience what Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers and Emergency Medical Technicians do on a daily basis. Cadets experience a range of practical exercises, but the academy is limited on what types of activities can be presented due to safety restrictions. The academy does not offer firearms training or defensive tactics. Due to the sensitive landscape of California, controlled burns (actual fires) will not be conducted. Medical personnel will be readily available in the event a medical emergency were to arise, and the college campus provides security of the facilities 24 hours a day.
